The Faculty of Theology is the oldest faculty at Makumira University College. It was established in 1947, and has provided theological education for pastors and leaders of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT) since that time.

The Faculty of Theology offers degrees at the levels of:

• Diploma in Theology (Dipl.Th.)
• Bachelor of Divinity (B.D.)
• Master of Theology (M.Th.)

A Ph.D. programme is offered in cooperation with other universities inside and outside of Tanzania..

The Faculty of Theology has 16 faculty members. Three-quarters are from Tanzania, with others coming from Europe and America. More than half hold the degree of Ph.D. or equivalent, with the rest holding Masters Degrees.
