Makumira is the ELCT's primary theological seminary. Future pastors of the ELCT, as well as of other churches throughout the world, are trained in a four year (plus one year internship) Bachelor of Divinity programme. Advanced theological studies are also offered at the level of Master of Theology (M.Th.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.).

In addition, Makumira also offers the following three-year Bachelor Degrees through the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in the following areas:
B. Education (Languages; Geography; History; Computer Science)
B.A. Languages for Academic & Professional Skills (Kiswahili; English; French) B.A. in Music (Church Music, Music Education).
Begining in 2009 there is also a Master of Education (M.Ed.)

In addition, Makumira offers a Bachelor Degree in Law (LL.B.) as a three-year programme.
